The Future Integrated Network Solutions (FINS) international conference is the first student-led conference in promotion with the IEEE IAS (Industrial Applications Society) and PELS (Power Electronics Society) in the United Kingdom. It has been jointly organised by the Universities of Glasgow Caledonian, Sheffield, and Strathclyde, each of whom have their own resident IEEE IAS Student Chapter. The 2-day event is currently planned to be hosted May 24th and 25th, 2018 in the Strathclyde Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC) building, in Glasgow, Scotland.
The main topics will include:
Power Electronics and Drive Control
Power System Operation, Protection and Control
As this is the first student-led conference of its kind in the UK, this will provide students with many advantages that otherwise would be impossible, and help foster the growing relationship between students and the IEEE. By providing invaluable networking opportunities for those involved in senior academia, industry, and students with involvement in electronic and electrical engineering related degrees, it is hoped that this will build the foundations for a stronger IEEE presence within the student community both nationally and internationally and for more conferences of this nature to be held in the UK.
All papers presented will be submitted to IEEE Xplore and will be published in the conference proceedings. The conference will also be hosting a poster session for students to present at as well as numerous paper presentation sessions based on a variety of topics throughout both days.
A tour of Strathclyde’s new Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) will also be provided during the conference duration. The centre, founded through the support from the University of Strathclyde, The Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Energy, works towards adopting research and technologies into the electricity industry.
